Three different aromatic Angostura bitters to try
bitter orange Angostura is a liqueur prepared by mixing two varieties of citrus oil, orange and tangerine, with different types of herbs and spices. Their combination results in a type of amaro very different from the others, and its bitter taste makes it a very particular drink for all occasions
The invention of this bitter is due to the Prussian doctor Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert, who at the time of the liberation of Venezuela invented the drink under the command of Simon Bolivar. The name derives from the city Angostura (today Ciudad Bolìvar) where the doctor experimented with mixtures for medical purposes; it is only in the mid-1800s, in London, that the drink began to be used for mixing alcoholic beverages, especially gin. Angostura is said to contain over 40 ingredients; it is certainly a citrus blend that contains vegetable extracts, cardamom and gentian.
Angostura, celebrated around the world for its rich history of creating aromatic and orange bitters, has expanded its renowned collection with Angostura cocoa bitters. We use only the best in the world, Trinitario cocoa from Trinidad and Tobago. This, coupled with 200 years of unmatched bitters experience, has resulted in this new, truly decadent and indulgent taste. Top notes of rich bitter, floral and nutty cocoa with a bold infusion of aromatic botanicals offer endless possibilities to remix classic cocktails and put a luxurious touch of luxury on a main course or dessert. Trinidad and Tobago is one of the few countries designated as a producer of 100% fine or flavored cocoa.
