Bolgheri DOC Vintage 2021 Guado al Tasso Magnum LT.1,5
Il Bruciato was born in 2002, in one of the most difficult harvests of Tenuta Guado al Tasso, to tell and make known the unique terroir of Bolgheri in a modern style. The carefully selected Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes come from vineyards located on soils with a wide geological variability capable of expressing great complexity.
Upon arrival in the cellar, the selected grapes were destemmed and softly pressed. Fermentation and maceration took place in thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks for a period of about 10-15 days at a temperature of 28-30°C. A part of the Merlot and Syrah musts was kept at lower fermentation temperatures to better preserve the varietal aromas. Malolactic fermentation took place partly in barriques and partly in stainless steel tanks, and was completed by the end of the year for all varieties. Subsequently the Cabernet Sauvignon was combined with Merlot, Syrah, and small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot: the wine thus obtained met again the barrique, where it rested before allowing itself for bottling.
The Bruciato 2021 has the usual intense ruby red color. Notes of small ripe red fruits, sweet spices and tobacco stand out on the nose. On the palate it is well structured, enveloping and with a pleasant fruity aftertaste that gives it a pleasant drinkability and persistence.
The 2021 vintage in Bolgheri was characterized by a prolonged dry period from June until the end of September. However, unlike 2017, the particularly rainy winter helped to significantly increase the water reserves of the deep soils that characterize the area, providing the vines with the right support throughout the production phase. Spring, basically cool, favored a slight delay in budding and subsequent flowering. Summer temperatures have never been excessive, allowing for a slow and regular ripening of the grapes in each vineyard with excellent levels of integrity and health.
The harvest began with Merlot in early September, continued with Cabernet Franc and Syrah around the middle of the month and concluded with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot at the end of September.
